Patchouli oil is a strong base note with a rich sweet, herbaceous and balsamic profile, derived from the leaves of a bush mainly found in India. During the 1960’s it became very popular and consumers quickly associated its odor with the luxurious imported indian pashminas and other traditional fabrics. Its pungent feature makes it a versatile ingredient which is not always very pleasant, especially if it happens to be of low quality. In modern perfumes only the best Patchouli oils are being used, which in their heart carry a woody and spicy explosion which is easily appreciated for its luxurious feel and the exotic, dry, earthy character. Patchouli feels like a dark, mysterious note that makes fragrances deeper and warmer and boost the longevity of floral accords.
