Our familiar culinary powdered spice has been used as an essential oil since the early 1500s. Its high value was always appreciated and was even used as a type of currency. In perfumery it is still one of the most important ingredients, with an essential oil obtained by steam distillation of dried seeds that offers a strong and pungent top note. Black pepper note is dry, fresh, warm and woody with a very intense, but not heavy odor.
